Audition for the
2018 Southerners Colorguard
Thank you for your interest in the JSU Marching Southerners Colorguard. Auditions for the 2019 season will be held on May 4th and May 18th. Each auditionee is only required to attend one audition date. There is a non-refundable $40 audition fee. Auditions will be held at Stephenson Hall unless a further update is given. If you have any questions regarding auditions, please email our head captain, Triniti Jones, at email@example.com
Make sure you join our Facebook group for audition updates and schedule changes!
What time do auditions start?
Audition Registration will begin at 8 AM each Saturday and run until 5 PM.
I noticed that the original audition dates changed. Should I register again?
No, you do not have to register again for auditions.
What do I wear to auditions?
It is required that all auditionees wear rehearsal blacks, preferably form fitting. Tennis shoes are required while spinning.
Do I have to attend both audition days?
No, you only have to attend one audition date. However, those who attend the first audition date and do not initially get offered a spot have the possibility of receiving a callback to be re-evaluated on the second date, so try to clear both days on your calendar.
What do I bring to auditions?
Each individual auditioning needs to bring their $40 audition fee, a flag, rifle/sabre if you are auditioning for weapon, and a water bottle would greatly benefit you throughout the day. We will have some extra equipment, but please try your best to bring your own. We will be free to drive to local fast food locations for lunch, so please bring money to eat!
What should I be working on before auditions?
Learn and practice all of the fundamental exercises that are located on the SCG webpage. Knowing these will greatly benefit you and increase your chances of making the guard!
Information that is pertinent to you
What exactly will take place during the audition camp?
During the audition camp, you will be evaluated in the areas of Flag, Movement, and Rifle fundamentals. You most certainly do not need to have experience on every piece of equipment. However, training on basic flag will be helpful to you during the audition process. Some of the exercises may not be familiar to you, please refer to the videos posted, and feel free to contact the 2019 Leadership Team.
The following skills will be evaluated at the Audition camp in May:
I. Flag (all skills should be rehearsed on the left and right hand)
II. Rifle (OPTIONAL)
-- In the Southerners Colorguard, we spin 37.5 rifles and 39" sabres
-- Sabre is optional and will be reviewed at auditions
